How to study Biology

Use the same three-step cycle for every topic. Once the main topics feel familiar, move to mixed sets and full simulations.

Study routine

  1. Learn: understand the main idea, process and terms.
  2. Practise: answer topic questions while the material is fresh.
  3. Review: explain every mistake and repeat weak topics.

Weekly Biology plan

Work through the syllabus in small blocks. Keep one short list of mistakes to revisit each week.

What to do each week

  • Learn: study two or three related topics.
  • Practise: answer questions on those topics.
  • Review: correct mistakes and finish with a mixed set.

IMAT Biology questions

Biology FAQ

How many Biology questions are on the IMAT?
Biology had 23 of 60 questions in the latest completed 2025/2026 official format. That makes it the largest subject section.
What Biology topics should I study for the IMAT?
Study biomolecules, cells, reproduction, genetics, DNA, evolution, biotechnology, human physiology and bioenergetics. Use the official MUR syllabus as your checklist.
Is IMAT Biology hard?
It can feel hard because the syllabus is broad. Many questions are not advanced, but they test whether you understand processes, vocabulary and small details clearly.
Should I start with full IMAT simulations?
Not immediately. If the basics are still weak, topic practice is usually more useful. Move into mixed timed sets and full simulations once the main Biology areas feel familiar.
How should I review IMAT Biology mistakes?
For each wrong answer, note the missed concept, the clue you ignored and the correct rule. This helps you fix patterns instead of memorizing one question.
